In collaboration with John Power. What appears to be a stylised and abstract sculpture draws inspiration from the natural forms of the local landscape. Hello Casuarina is a sculptural welcome to the station and town. It is inspired by the Black She-oak (Allocasuarina littoralis), a tree of cultural significance for the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung people and references Montmorency’s bushland character.

Female trees produce small, woody cones approximately 1 cm in size. These remarkable cones are formed by a double helix of ventricles (pointed chambers that house the seeds). Hello Casuarina portrays the closed cone, full of energy and potential, in the moment before it opens. The work invites contemplation of these subtle natural geometries, offering a new perspective on the often-overlooked, diminutive features of the local bushland environment.
