Night Life

Upper Ferntree Gully is home to a rich diversity of native flora and fauna. This lightbox project explores the area’s bush, vibrant plant life and the nocturnal animals that come alive after dark.

Working with artist Jo Mott, students from Upper Ferntree Gully Primary School used techniques such as leaf rubbings, wax-resist, collage and silhouette-making to create layered images inspired by the local environment. Children from different classes contributed to two key elements: nocturnal animals and local flora, combining their work to create a series of colourful, glowing collaborative compositions.

The final artworks, displayed in these lightboxes, celebrate both the natural world and the creativity of the school community. This project highlights the power of working together- inviting children to share their voices, express their connection with the local environment and take pride in contributing to an artwork for all to enjoy.
